Follow schedule and stop delays for new train station
Candidate’s Corner; Catonsville Times; 2/6/06
The community of Halethorpe needs some answers. Moneys for a new MARC train station have been appropriated for the previous three years.
Delegate James Malone told the community that construction would begin in August 2005. He should know, since he is vice chair for the Environmental Matters Committee and chairman for the Vehicle and Transportation Subcommittee, which has some oversight for this project.
At a Jan. 17 meeting, the Transportation Department informed the community that it could be nine months to two years before the project begins. The Attorney General's Office says the guidelines and procedures used for the past 30 years are no longer valid.
It appears that the Attorney General's Office has joined the Democrat-controlled legislature to stop a project in the governor's home district and to support his son-in-law, a major candidate, in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
